Who is responsible for students learning?

a bit of a thinker...examining my options between the obvious (student, teacher, parents) I think all play a roll that is key to actually learning knowledge. All starts with a teacher, someone who presents the information, doesn't matter what it is, as long as its presented in a way that is beneficial to a student. But even if a teacher does a perfect job, it doesn't automatically translate into a student has learned the material. The student probably has the largest role in all, being the one who is learning, he/she has to want to learn the material, or at least be open to learning, and with good habits of studying and reviewing. With only doing the material in class a student probably won't retain the info, but studying and reviewing habits are not genetically programed, they need to be learned at home where those habits take place. This means the parents need to take an active role in a students learning, encourage them, teach them skills in an environment that, if at home, a teacher cannot teach. So this ends up being a group effort at a minimum.

  1. I agree with you that the teacher isn't 100% responsible for the student's learning and that even if they present the material perfectly, the student doesn't necessarily learn it. The student is the only one who can ensure that they learn the material. I also agree that the parents need to be encouraging, because if they aren't, the student may not take the time to study and review class material outside of school, which could be the most important thing to them learning.
