Being a Physical Education teacher requires the knowledge of many skills. Although I will know how to do many skills there are still some skills that I will need assistance with. This is when I will introduce methods of technology to make sure the students get the most out of the lesson. I also plan on being a coach. All sports require different technologies to help the team succeed.
There are many different technologies that I can utilize in my classroom and with my team. In the classroom I can utilize videos, health related equipment, other computer equipment and videogames. I can use workout tapes that students might not be able to afford to purchase by themselves. I can also use videos of athletes to show to skills to the students. If my demonstration is not helpful to them I can use the video for them to watch a true athlete perform the skill. I can use heart rate monitors to track my students progress. I can use computer programs like Digi-Net98 that can allow for my students to understand movement of skills. I really want to use a Swing Doctor to help my students with their club swings. Like most people if I wanted a dance unit I could use DDR. These are just some of the things I want to use in my classroom.
Through special programs like Best Buy with reward points I could gain technology that I am not able to purchase on my schools budget. As a coach I could put all the plays into a video game, like MADDEN, and have my team use only those plays when the play the game. This will help the memorize the plays. I could also put all the plays in an Ipad and have it at practice for the players to see. I could also use FIFA to have the players understand strategy.
I think implementing technology into the classroom and in the coaching areas are needed. Technology can make a world of difference. Although technology does not always cooperate, I still think we should use it. I plan on using it in the future and can not wait to see what else comes out that can increase activity and understanding in the classroom.
I like the use of video games to help the students learn new plays. Video games are a great way to get students involved in the activity who would otherwise not be interested. I know that if video games were involved in my high school for certain activities, I would of displayed a more positive attitude towards it. Example: Dance Dance Revolution for learning different dances.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree that some technologies can be useful in helping us demonstrate some skills that we do not know how to complete ourselves. Video displays can really be a great way to show the students how the activity or skill can be completed corrected. I also like how you mentioned using videos or programs that students can afford to have outside of school. Things like P90x and Wii games are huge in today's society and many students have access to them outside of school. If you teach them some of the more beneficial aspects of those games they can definitely improve their fitness. Finally, like Josh, I also liked your ideas of incorporating a play from a videogame to be used in real life practicing. A very creative approach to that use of technology. Good post!
ReplyDeleteI never really thought about the idea of using video games for strategies for games. I think that is a really good idea. It would definitely get a lot more kids involved. I am sure that there are other games besides sports that we could use. Maybe an adventure game that could get the students excited about a more cognitive or affective lesson. Using video games could also give students a quick way of how the game is played and what they might want to do when they start. Students learn differently and for some this idea might help them out. I also agree with the fact that we could use technology to help teach lessons better so the students know what we want them to learn.
