I believe that the responsibility for learning is different with every kid. Their are some kids who have the ability to learn and then their are those students who have learning disabilities that inhibit their learning. For these students with disabilities the responsibility falls more with the teachers and parents. Early on in the students academic career, the responsibility is more with the teachers than with the students because the teachers should be trying to teach them ways to better understand topics and subjects and get them interested in learning. Later in life they will develop their own way of learning that suits them best. For example, some students like to go over notes right after school so they refresh their memory and some students just like to study the week before the test. Every student is different in the way they approach learning so the responsibility of learning is different with everyone as well. As the students get into high school and college the responsibility switches over to the students more than the teachers. In high school, the teacher still has the responsibility to get students involved in the class and try to get them to learn but in college the teacher does not have to force the students to learn anything since they are paying to come to college and they should be coming to class anyways since they want to have a better future not just because they have to.
The percentage of responsibility in elementary and middle school is:
Teacher - 50%
Student - 30%
Parent - 15%
Other - 5%
High School:
Teacher - 35%
Student - 55%
Parent - 10%
College:
Teacher - 25%
Student - 70%
Parent - 5%
I agree that learning is different for every student. Some students might have the ability to learn on their and not need to much from the teachers to get by. While others might need help more help from teachers and family. I do feel that schools have been putting greater emphasis on kids getting the best education possible. So there are ways for all students to be successful if they want to. When they are younger it is presented to them more and when they are older they need to go out and find the help, but it is possible.
