While I'm not necessarily an advocate for online physical education, I do believe that there are several other different types of technology that will benefit both the teacher and the students of a physical education classroom. Imagine taking roll on a palm pilot of sort for example. Ample amount of time would be saved every day because you as the teacher would basically be able to submit roll without having students come in and sit around for five minutes. It's just little examples such as this that show just how effective a little amount of technology use in the physical education classroom can be affective. I personally would love to involve the use of exer-gaming in my classroom. Today's culture is dominated by video game usage by our youth. What better way to get these kids active then to let them do something they enjoy. Whether it be Dance Dance Revolution or Wii Fit, any use of exer-gaming in the classroom is going to be entertaining for the students.
A great tool for teachers would be incorporating heart rate monitors to their physical education classrooms. In my eyes, there is no better way to fairly assess students in physical education then the use of these devices. No longer will students be able to get away with giving little effort. These devices will create an active atmosphere in the classroom that will only benefit teachers. It also would be great for a teacher who has to many kids in their class to be watching everyone constantly to make sure that physical activity is being completed. I know that most of the new technology that physical education has to offer is expensive, but the there are ways to help raise money. Teachers could create some kind of after school fit club that holds fund raisers occassionally, and many more ideas could work as well. With that kind of technology, I believe that myself would only be able to benefit from.
