Allowing Technology in PE Instruction

I will admit that I am gradually becoming more open to the idea of incorporating the use of technology in my instruction planning, especially after having heard all of the positive responses from my classmates in our recent conversations over the past few weeks.  However, I still intend to keep the role of technology to a strict minimum because I sincerely feel that its use is not completely necessary.  I do believe that the use of certain technologies (such as the video-game consoles and certain games like DDR) is justifiable, but if I am unable to incorporate them into my teaching lessons, I would not feel terribly upset.

If there is an adequate amount of money, and if other resources permit for the incorporation of the Wii, then I would definitely make that option available to my students.  On the other hand, if these technologies were simply out of reach for my school district's budget, then I would not let that become a problem.  In other words, if I can provide the opportunity for my students to experience instruction through the use of a video-game i'd be for it, but it would never be my first option.  As I have mentioned on previous posts, I prefer keeping PE as far away from a TV screen and/or laptop as possible, and, although, technologies such as the Wii may prove to be of equal effectiveness when used appropriately, I will always be a firm advocate of having students participate in more traditional ways.
