Responsibility of Learning

I think that more than just the students are responsible for student learning. While students must take some of the responsibility, teachers and parents should also play a large role, especially for younger children. The breakdown for elementary school students is: 40% students, 30% parents, 30% teachers. I think this is true because parents play the largest role in their children's lives at a young age, when their kids are most dependent on them. Parents make their meals, take them to school, make sure that they do their homework, etc. Further, it is at this young age that parents teach their children respect, the importance of learning and getting work done, and doing well in school in general. It is then up to the students to pay attention during class, participate, and learn what the teacher is presenting. I think teachers play the smallest role at this point. Not that the teacher isn't important during this phase, I just think that parents and students have more to do with what the students learn. However, this changes as student progresses through school.
