My main jobs, as a Physical Educator is to help the students to develop a lifelong participation in physical activity and to educate them about the benefits of physical activity. Technology is taking over the world and the Physical Education class should be a part of it. Children can be graded unfairly on the simple bias that they are not putting in any effort. By having all the students wear a heart rate monitor, I will be able to find their target heart rates. I will then have them try to obtain a certain heart rate zone during class. I will then have a better measurement of how hard the students are actually working. I know students try hard but there are some instances when students are doing their best but it goes unnoticed. Having the heart rate monitors will show instant results for the students, the parents, and myself to observe and determine how the students are performing. I will be able to help the students find activities that they can maintain their heart rate and hopefully develop a better understand of themselves, their bodies, and their health. I feel that implementing Heart Rate monitors in the classroom will allow my students to achieve at a higher level and get more out of themselves and the class. Thank you and have a great day.

  1. I agree that heart rate monitors are really important to give an unbiased view of how hard someone is working. Having all of the students wear heart rate monitors is the easiest way to tell if they are really working, and the best way to show them what zone they want to be in. They can carry this information with them too, and use it for times in the future when they are physically active.

  2. This is a great idea to make sure that P.E. grade is definitely based on effort opposed to natural ability and talent. The kids who are less athletic yet are trying just as hard if not harder deserve to be noticed and this seems a fair way to figure that out. This is also a great way for kids to have a base of physical fitness and are then able to observe improvements throughout the year.

  4. Jake, heart rate monitors are an excellent idea for the classroom. Educating the students on what physical activity does for the body will benefit them in the future. I also believe that this will help aid in lifelong participation in physical activity. Once students are informed on what activities help raise their HR. This will help motivate them to reach these certain HR zones and participate at the proper intensity.
