Brent's ideas on who is responsible for student learning

I would say that teachers are the main people responsible for student learning. They are the ones who create the activities and learning experiences for children. Teachers provide feedback and demonstrations that allow students to gain an increased level of understanding and knowledge that creates students learning. Teachers must be able to teach kids an effective and efficient way that allows students to gain knowledge and understanding. However, I must say that students have an equal responsibility in the learning relationship too. They must show up to class ready to listen and participate. Their attention and interactions will allow them to learn. So they must be able to participate and listen to the teacher, that way the teachers can provide them with the best understanding. Students need to be able to learn self control to allow classes to be most suitable and efficient for teachers, that way they can spend more time on learning activities as opposed to management.
Parents are also of important value to the way in which a child participates and learns. Parents need to have control of their child and what the child does, and they need to make sure their child behaves appropriately in class. Parents need to teach their children proper conduct, respect, and attention/listening skills. If a child comes from a family that does not respect teachers, the teachers will have a hard time instilling knowledge in the children. No teacher likes to have to take time out to discipline and manage children. Parents can also help out by providing their children with outside learning opportunities to supplement their education. Moreover, I would also say that the government and school district itself is somewhat responsible for learning. They are a part of the learning experience because they provide the funds and resources to allow the teacher to buy and use equipment that leads to improved student learning. These governing bodies also need to make available a proper gym setting (gym space and location). Students must have adequate equipment and gym space so they have the best classroom environment allowing them to learn. All in all, all of these branches combine to form an overall tree of responsibility.

I would break down learning responsibility into these percentages:
-         45% Teachers
-         35% Students
-         10% Parents
-         10% School District

  1. I agree that teachers and students are most important in student learning. However, can this responsibility differ with varying age? Also, I do not think the school district plays a major role in student learning. I believe learning can take place even without extra equipment and space. This is the teacher's responsibility to be creative and work with what is given. Given it may be more difficult to teach with limited resources, it is still very possible which is why I do not think the School District plays a major role.
