How I Might Use Technology

I do feel that after talking the last couple of weeks that I see more chances where I will feel comfortable using technology in the physical education classroom. I feel that technology is so much a part of students everyday life, that we has teachers need to try and adapt with that. One piece of technology that I have thought about using is power point. It would be a good way for the students to learn a more complicated game, or a game that is new to them along with helping me teach the sport. It would make it easier for them in my opinion because I think that most teachers now at the high school level are starting to get more into the power point presentation then they have and the pass. So if students are use it to learning that way I think it would help them out if we taught them the same way. It might also help get their attention better and really help enforce the main points and cues that I want the students to learn about the game. I would be able to show pictures and videos on how to do the proper form of a technique. However I do need to be aware of the fact that this can take a good amount of time and I do not want to lecture much during my class. I want to provide the most activity time as possible, so the power points would be very short and to the point so we could get the class going.

Another piece of technology that I would not mind having is this really cool running game I saw at the IAHPERD last year. It was like the game DDR where two students would stand on a mat. There is a person on the screen that is supposed to be you and as you run in place the person on the screen starts to run. But they had to do it in the correct way so that the person would get to their maximum speed. I played it with another person and by the time the race was over my legs were really tired and I felt that I got a good work out. It is something that students might enjoy to do. I could have it as a station or something where each kid had a chance to race someone. It is another way to motive students to run because that is something they do not enjoy doing on their own.

  1. I agree with Chris in that after taking this class I do see a lot more reasonable ways of incorporating technology into the class. Before I did not associate technology with physical education but after seeing such a wide variety of ways it can be used I understand that it will play a role in my teaching. I also like the point he made about making sure the class is still very active. Therefore, we need to monitor our uses of technology and only apply it if it is going to add to the activity not take away from it. The number one goal of physical education is to get students active, so if a teacher's use of technology is getting in the way of that then that teacher is not properly applying the resources available to them.

  2. That game sounds really cool, I hadn't ever seen anything like it! You saw it at IAPHERD? Did they mention how many physical education programs were using the running game, or how expensive it was? Technology is a great way to keep students active, as well as a great way to assess their activity!
