Although I don’t believe technology is a necessity for physical education I do believe it can be a useful resource. I imagine that as technology evolves it will become more and more important to incorporate it into our class room for usefulness and to keep students attention. Some basic ways I could see utilizing technology for physical education are things like a projector screen. With a projector screen I feel it gives the teacher several different options, for instance you could show a PowerPoint demonstration, a video to demonstrate a skill, or even go as far as to use it for workout videos that the class can follow along to. With a projector it would be simple enough for a teacher just to search a demonstration on YouTube and pull up videos like this for example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Xp2cdiTxhg or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxaGSW7Yn4Q . I assume as technology advances it will one day be worthwhile to use things such as interactive video games and virtual reality games in physical education that can get students moving, but as of right now I don’t feel there are any games that do a good enough job of this to take the place of a physical education lesson. As technology becomes more and more present in our society I would assume as teachers it will become utilized as a teaching tool more and more for all subjects including physical education, but in the long run I do not believe technology can take the place of a hands on instructor and teachers must know when it is appropriate to use technology for a lesson and when it is not.
