Technology in the Classroom

Technology needs to find a way to make an improvement in current PE classroom instruction. Sure some classes have a good handle for it, but for lower budget schools, there is a minimal or even no technological advancement in the physical education setting. For example, my high school’s physical education class really only used a TV for any sort of technological use in the classroom. Even that was rarely used over the course of the school year. Things like this shouldn’t fly in any physical education setting regardless of the community.

At minimum, all schools should have heart rate monitors for an entire class. The benefits the class would have is more than worth the cost of the equipment. Having the numbers there to show the students the progress they are making helps them and the teacher know where they are at and where they need to be. Knowing these numbers will help the students set up goals that they can try to reach periodically. This alone would improve the effectiveness of lessons a great deal.

Projectors would be helpful in a classroom as well. Being able to have information displayed overhead as opposed to just using word of mouth and handouts. Students who need more visual learning will benefit and videos could also be used with the overhead for instructional videos. Teachers don’t always have perfect form with the activities being taught so having a way to show the skill being done by a professional can help the class get key tips when performing it themselves. An overhead will also give a larger picture so everyone will be able to see clearly so they can catch every detail.
