Technology Use in PE
While my eyes have been opened to the options of using technology in the gym setting, I still cannot see myself using much technology at all if I were to teach a Physical Education class. I still believe that the most effective PE classes achieve the goal of getting students physically active while teaching them life skills, such as teamwork and leadership. I think that the only technologies that would fulfill these classroom objectives would be some kind of technology that encourages physical activity like a WiiFit or Dance Dance Revolution. These options, however, are not very economical for a school system to invest in so, especially with all the budget situations around the nation, I can't imagine that any classroom I would be working in would have these sorts of resources. Even after finishing our skill projects in the past two weeks I still think that a student would learn a skill better by actually going through the motions and learning each aspect of the skill using muscle memory.
I would however use technology in the coaching aspect of teaching a skill to an athlete. I think that being able to film an athlete and show them the break down of the skill they are completing is an effective teaching tool when you are trying to perfect a skill. But, once again, this is not the goal of a Physical Education class so still do not think I would use technology in a PE classroom setting.
