Responsibility of Student Learning

The people responsible for student learning depend in every child. It also depends in the age of the student and environment. At an early age parents take the majority of student learning. As students’ progress the teacher becomes more responsible to a point when they are holding equal responsibility. Parents need to guide and teach good student values and morals. Give students the right idea of what is expected of them and how they must behave in class. Teachers will enforce that behavior and they will prepare them for the next grade level. The student at early age should behave and follow all rules that were taught by the parents and teachers. Students at an early age should already be accustoming to obeying parents and teachers which gives them a low percentage in responsibly in student learning. Another factor that I believe plays a role in student learning is friends which they do not hold a responsibility until the middle school and early high school level. Depending in the student, the friends they hang out with may influence the student learning, especially when one is around friends who do not have interest in academics and are always in bad behavior.

There are students who do not get influenced by misbehaving peers and continue to achieve in higher academics. As student reach the upper high school levels and college the majority of the responsibility falls on them. Professors and TAs do somewhat of a responsibility to teach the material and help students who struggle. But it is up to the student to ask for help and find help. At this stage nothing will be given on a “silver platter” and it is up to the student to take his or her own responsibility.

It taught to break it down.

Early stages overall:
Student – 15%
Parent – 35%
Teacher – 35%
Friends – 15%

Late Stages overall:
Student – 60%
Parent – 15%
Teacher – 15%
Friends – 10%

  1. I agree with Christian. Every child is different and every child learns at a different pace. As children grow older their intelligence grows as well and are able to think for themselves and are capable of making their own decisions like whether or not to study for their test coming up. Early on the responsibility is more on the teachers to motivate the students to learn. As they get older the responsibility switches over to the students more.

  2. I agree that teachers and parents should take a role in guiding students to adopt good morals and behaviors when it comes to learning. But I don't completely agree with what you said about how younger students are have a poor influence on each other when it comes to learning. I believe that in spite of any negative connotations of learning, a student will learn if he or she holds education high in value. Therefore, I feel that a student in the early stages of learning should be slightly more responsible for his or her learning. But I do agree that in the later stages of learning, the student is most responsible for his or her learning.

  3. I agree with Christian in that every student is different. I also agree with how he feels environment plays a role. Therefore, the responsibility for student learning is different with each individual. It is also dependent on age. The older a student gets the more responsible he or she is for their own learning.
