After re-reading my original philosophy statement, I think that I would keep it the way that it is. I still agree with everything that I wrote, so I wouldn't change anything. However, I would probably add to it. In my original philosophy statement, I wrote about using technology such as treadmills, bikes, arm bikes, electrical stimulation, video, and computers. Before taking this class, I did not know a lot about technology, so my knowledge of types of technology was very limited. Today, I would change my philosophy statement and incorporate other forms of technology that we have learned about.
Another type of technology that I could utilize in a physical therapy setting is PowerPoint. Before, I did not realize how I could use this type of technology in my work. However, now I think that it would be very useful it putting together presentations for patients. Having a PowerPoint presentation on exercise and stretches that the patients can do it home could be really beneficial to them because they would be able to see the information whenever they want to, and hopefully the presentation could answer any questions for them that they may have while stretching at home. I also could use WebQuests, which is a type of technology I did not include in my original statement. I think that WebQuests could be a way that patients can learn more about their injury and the rehabilitation process in general. Providing optional WebQuests could help the patients that are interested learn more about what they are going through.
My original philosophy statement stated that I thought that using technology in physical therapy is useful because it can be used as a mode of physical activity, as a way to help injured muscles, or a way to communicate. After reviewing my statement, I still agree with all of these things. I still think that technology such as treadmills and bikes, as well as E-stim and videos, are extremely beneficial in the physical therapy setting. However, after learning about other types of technology, I would change my philosophy statement to include some of these things, such as WebQuests and PowerPoint presentations.
Melanie,
ReplyDeleteGiven you are talking about Physical Therapy, I never thought about using PowerPoint or WebQuests in Physical Education. After taking the class, I realize that both can be extremely useful tools for a Physical Education course. It gives the students something new to focus on rather than just listening to the teacher every day. It is a more interactive way of learning that can be used both in Physical Therapy and Physical Education. The use of PowerPoint will be extremely useful. It can be used to teach a lesson or to go over the background to a new unit. No matter what these technologies are used for, I never even considered using them in a Physical Education course before I took this course.
