http://www.pedometersusa.com/accusplit-ae120.html - $700
If I was provided with $2000 in order to improve the technology available in the Physical Education department, the first item that I would buy would be 40 Accusplit AE120 XL pedometers. These pedometers are highly accurate and would be great to help students track their progress in physical education. If students are physically able to see how many steps they take during a typical class period, they can estimate the amount of calories burned and they can gauge how hard they are working during class. I feel that pedometers are very useful tools for any physical education class. They allow students to visually see their progress and activity levels during a class period.
With the remaining $1300, I would first purchase an HP Pavillion Touchsmart Tablet computer. This tablet would allow for me to easily take attendance and assess students during activities without having to transport data from a notebook onto a desktop. Also, with the wireless capabilities of the tablet, I would be able to access videos and important websites from the gymnasium using the school’s wireless network.
Finally, I would purchase an Optomo Pico Pocket Projector with the remaining $400. This projector would allow me to display videos, PowerPoint, graphs, figures, and important websites on a wall in the Gymnasium. The projector can display images up to 120”, which will be plenty visible to all of the students in the class. This technology can be very useful in displaying information for students and will definitely make it easier for me as an educator to just be able to plug in a portable tablet into the projector rather than having to deal with a desktop computer to display videos and websites from the internet.
