Revisiting Philosophy Statement

When I went back and looked at my philosophy statement I found that I still have many of the same beliefs about technology and its use in physical education. I would not change anything I have already in my philosophy statement, but rather I would add to it. I did not include too much about how to utilize technology for assessment, so I added different ways I would use technology in assessment. I added that I would utilize Fitnessgram as an assessment tool and a way to track my students physical fitness throughout the year. Also, I included I would also use video recording to tape my students performing a specific skill. This will help me give specific, individual feedback to my students. Also, students will be able to watch themselves perform the skill and try to make corrections on their own.

I would utilize technology in a fun, more exciting way in my classroom as well. I would find a way, through applying to grants, to buy a gaming system and fitness games students can play along with it. Specifically, I would want to buy a Wii gaming system to utilize in my class. I would also buy DDR to go along with the Wii. Also, Wii has many fitness games that I could utilize in my class. This is a way to relate to my students and make them more willing to participate in P.E. class. Using this technology will promote lifetime physical activity in my classroom.

In addition, I would utilize Power Point as an instructional strategy. I would use a projector and my computer to create Power Points for class. I would present class instructions and important skill cues for my class to utilize during activity time.

I think technology is important to incorporate into physical education class. As long as it is not overused and it is used properly, it will only better my curriculum.

  1. Ariana,

I like how you said that you kept the same views and just added to them. I feel that a lot of us can relate to that feeling of just improving our understanding of the uses of technology in a class. I also liked how you mentioned specific areas of your teaching that technology could improve. I definitely think using technology to make a classroom more fun is a must in today's society when all kids want to do is be entertained. Furthermore, I liked your point on how technology can improve instructional strategies. That is a very important contributing factor to our success as P.E. teachers. Good post!
