Technology is growing and improving fast in today’s society. In my opinion, I feel that it is only right that we use the technology equipment that there is out there into a physical education class. The technology that is used in the physical education class must be utilized correctly and efficiently. Technology can help with recording student’s actions, improve the grading system, help develop different styles of teaching, and allow students to keep record of their fitness process. Technology will further improve the physical education classroom and will help to give students the idea of exercising and participating in physical activity for a lifetime.
There are many technology instruments that will help in physical education. Instruments such as heart rate monitors, and pedometers that help kids keep track of their fitness levels. PowerPoint presentation and videos are two of the many different ways to teach to students. Now and days less kids are playing outside where they get most of their physical fitness and have fun. Therefore one of the best technologies out there is the Nintendo Wii Fit. One of the main reasons preventing kids from playing outside are the game systems. I feel that is very important to take one of the most popular technology that kids use and modify it allow kids to participate in physical activity and also have fun. Even though the Wii will most likely not give children the required daily exercise but some exercise is better than none. Another popular technology being use in physical education classes is Dance Dance Revolution. I prefer for kids to participate in some sort of sport but if this gets them more involved and have for fun then I am all for it.
Technology is great because it can improve teaching by allowing more time for physical activity but as long as it’s being used correctly. I believe it can make students for interested and involved in physical education.
I think that it is important to "keep up with the times" as well by staying up to date with the latest technology. This will help to keep students engaged, particularly with the Wii Fit as you mentioned. Students have come to expect the latest in technology; it surrounds them. I know my little cousin is better at using the computer than his parents. Likewise, students may be better able and more familiar with new equipment than teachers expect and it is so critical that as teachers, we too, are familiar with the equipment above and beyond the knowledge of the students.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with using technology as an aid in the classroom. Computers have revolutionized the way we present material in power points and typed lesson plans, not to mention the ease of taking attendance or keeping track of student progress. There is no way to remove technology from the classroom, even if it is a gym. Great insights, Christian!
I agree that technology can be useful in the physical education classroom. Using powerpoint, video recording, and instruments such as heart rate monitors can definitely enhance the learning environment of a p.e. classroom. In terms of the video games, I am not sold on the benefits they claim to offer. I agree that some exercise is better than none, but I feel that if we perform our jobs as physical educators, we can find a more effective form of physical activity. I feel that possibly promoting these types of games as something students can use in their free time outside of school is a good idea, however I do not feel class time should be committed to video games. I enjoyed your blog post very much Christian!
