Online Physical Education

Just the sound of that doesn’t make much sense. It’s some kind of world we live in when it’s a good idea to take an online course of physical education. Now maybe it is acceptable course to take in college when the students are dedicated enough, but that’s a rare find. With no one there with the student to make sure they are performing as often and as well as they should, how can there be an accurate grading scale? To me the only way a physical education class works is if it’s a class about a way to teach something that has to do with physical education.

If online physical education is going to exist, it should only be at the college level. Students in high school or younger are not disciplined enough to be trusted with completing any work needed in such classes without an instructor to moderate their progress. Also, they may not have developed all the skills necessary in a certain activity to be able to perform it efficiently without someone there to guide them. If something like this continues to grow over the years, the instructors in charge of the content of the classes need to make sure it is as efficient and practical as possible. Here’s hoping that online physical education works to its full potential.

  1. I agree that it would be very hard for students to take online education at the high school level. It would take a tremendous amount of dedication that at that age most students do not have. Also I am confused on how a teacher would grade their students. It feels like it is an easy way out for the teachers. It would not be fair to younger children who have to learn their physical education online. They need that adult/ teacher figure to help them learn. The obesity levels are extremely high in students now, and I feel that they will only continue to grow if there is online physical education

  2. I agree that assessing students in physical education would be very difficult online. Also, high school students especially, may not have the commitment to actually perform the instructed material. I like the idea of possibly using online p.e. classes in college because it makes them more easily accessible to college students with busy schedules. Also, college students most likely have had some sort of high school physical education and have a background in how to perform most of the activities taught in the course. I enjoyed your post Chance.
