Online Physical Education

Online physical education may be useful for certain students. Students with a disability may find online physical education more useful than in a classroom setting. A student with a disability may feel inferior and isolated because he or she cannot perform the same skills as his/her classmates. Online physical education can help a disabled child feel successful and confident as they can perform certain skills on their own and pass goals that are suitable to their abilities. Disabled students should also attend classroom physical education to interact with their peers, develop social skills, and can improve certain skills by playing friendly sports with the non-disabled students.
Online physical education is more suitable for disabled students but the problem lies the assignments given are actually performed at home. I feel that online physical education is only successful with the involvement of the students’ parents. As they say the best teacher are our parents. That means more time taken away from the hardworking parents and maybe time they don’t have to help their child with an online class. I believe that online physical education is not at all reliable but with the help of parents it can be useful for students with a disability but it is in no way a suitable replacement for classroom PE as the competition and team play are important in physical education.

  1. That's an interesting point you have for students with disabilities. With the right people involved, that kind of method could work wonders for disabled students. The only real issue I can see with that, and you have also addressed, is the completion of assignments that are performed at home. Most parents that have to go through that are very involved so I don't see why there would be much of a problem there, but in some cases you just never know. This is something that should be looked into very closely.

  2. Christian,
I like your idea of having Online Physical Education be an option for students with disabilities. I never really thought of that option and I think that's a very good thinking-out-of-the-box way to look at OPE. I think some students with disabilities could greatly benefit with online P.E. since a lot of students with behavioral disorders aren't allowed or have limited P.E. to begin with. I like how you mentioned that the parents would need to be heavily relied on in order to help this process because I think you are 100% right on that. If a student with a disability can work with and OPE course and they have parental support, I feel they would be able to achieve more success in being active than in regular P.E. classes. Good Post!

  3. I agree with your idea of online physical education for students with disabilities. This is something I didn't consider when thinking about online physical education. I also agree that parents need to be involved in the process with these students with disabilities to help them become more physically active, and to make sure they are completing their homework. Great ideas!

  4. i agree that online physical education is good for certain students. Students with disabilities and social problems would work best in an online program. I think that online physical education takes away from the actual learning of skills and movements for children. Also with American children becoming more obese, online physical education will only make that problem worse.
