Game Consoles

I am not sure how much game consoles should be used in the physical education, but I do feel that it does have potential to be more and more common as we get more and more advance. In the last ten years or so, people have become much more involved with video game and electronics. This is something as teachers we have to be aware of. I feel that makes a good teacher is that they are passionate about what they do, and they have a good understanding of have to relate to other students. As of now I am not a huge fan of technology in the physical education, and I cant remember the last time I played a video game. However, I do understand that it is a big part of some students lives, and I feel its a way that they may be more active while they are doing something they enjoy. Also it might spark some interest in other hobbies. I look at a gaming console like the Wii. I now there are a bunch of sports games on the Wii that kids might enjoy. Not only is it keeping them active, but there is some technique they could learn from the games. I feel like it is something that I might consider using for a lesson in the future. I feel that it would be something useful in stations or on a free day. Last year I went up to the IAHPERD convention at Pheasant Run, and they had all different ideas for students to get more involved in exercise. They had some videos, video games, and simulators. One of them was this really cool simulator that would allow you and a partner to run against each other. But it was running in place, and the person had to do it just right. It was challenging because it was just running in motion for over a minute because it was a 400 meter race, so it would get challenging because you would have to run just the right way. By the end it really worked out both my quads and calves. I do feel that if I had enough money it would be something worth it. I feel that a lot of kids would like to try it out and go against their friends. Even though they could easily go out and race their friend on the track, I feel a lot of kids now like to have that virtual affect where it is more than just them and someone else.
